ANTIQUE CHIN QUIVERS W/ GORGEOUS BINDING
Origin: Myanmar (Burma) (Provenance: found in an old collection in Canada)
Period/Date: Early 20th century, possibly older
Materials: Bamboo, rattan, cloth, cowrie shell, arrows: wood, remnant feathers, pigments, resin adhesive
Description: Here's an exciting offering. This pair of Chin quivers are very old and in excellent condition! One even retains its arrows and woven rattan cap. They are complete with shoulder straps embellished with Cowrie shell wealth adornment. Each has a Bamboo container with advanced blacked patina and coupled with a superbly woven quiver basket (reminiscent of fine Japanese Ikebana basket work). Each basket is decorated with a lovely panel of openwork rattan, being a demonstration of skill, artistry and vision. The baskets and bamboo are tightly secured together by thick red accent bans of rattan. Its worth noting that the Quai Branly museum in Paris only has "two" in their collection and neither is as old or complete as these rare examples. The quiver without a top has an old inventory label "Chin Arrow Quiver, ate, N. Burma, old, TBKBA304B" from when the previous owner collected it years ago. These are very old specimens with advanced use patina showing impressive old world craftsmanship.
Dimensions: Overall Length with shoulder straps 33-34.5", Rattan baskets: 12-13" long
