IBAN DAYAK TROPHY SKULL
Origin: Indonesia, Borneo, Iban Dayak (Provenance: Acquired from an oddities collector in Florida. Prior to that in an old Dutch collection)
Period/Date: At least early 20th century, possibly 19th C.
Materials: Human Cranium, rattan, cloth, vine and twine
Description: This powerful old trophy skull retains its lower jaw and original headdress. It was encompassed with traditional bent vines to bind it, the remains can be seen under the jaw and top of headdress. It features a warm rich varied patina turning to a reddish brown. It has a dry dull patina underneath the headdress as would be expected. It has a total of 8 intact teeth. A quality example with a very profound presence.
