COLLECTION OF FIVE 19TH C. MAASAI LION SPEARS
Origin: Africa, Maasai People, Kenya/ Tanzania (Provenance: From an old collection in Edinburgh Scotland)

Description: This is a handsome group of early Lion/ fighting spears. All of these spears show old world craftsmanship and and artful blacksmith skills. Many of their wood handgrips have deep gorgeous patinas and color from long use. Note that the spear on the "far left" with semi-polished shiny blade is said to have killed a Lion. That according to the previous owner. The blade on this example is waffle in several direction along its linear path, suggesting great force and trauma. Each spear is all original and each has varying degrees of surface rust and pitting. Note that each of their heavy iron tang ends are well forged, some having dimples and notch work.
