FINE MASSIM LIME SPATULA

Origin:  New Guinea, Milne Bay, Trobriand Island, Massim People    (Provenance: Ex. Jolika collection of Marcia and john Friede, Ex. Marc Assayag, Ex. Michael Hamson)

Period/Date:  Late 19th-early 20th century

Materials:  ebony hardwood

Description:  Massim lime spatual with large figure of complex form and allover surface decoration.  The long arms lopp forward with hands under the pronounces chin.   The legs bent backwards at the knees and connect to form the buttocks.  The eyes are large and intense with mouth having exposed teeth.  Good aged patina overall with blade showing requisite field use.
