KNOTTED SUMBA THROWING SLING STONE

Origin:  Inodnesia, Sumba     (Provenance:  Ex. Ken and Rosella Dalke Collection- CA.  Originally purchased from Australian dealer Mark Lissauer in the early 1980's)

Period/Date:  Early 20th C. 

Materials: rope/ fiber covered stone

Description:  This rare throwing weapon or bludgeon is covered with tightly knotted crochet work to form a loop handle.  I would have caused a devastating impact on bone like a skull.  Good condition with minor abrasions.  Stand not included.

The weapon almost looks like what the first mate would have on a 19th century Whaling ship to dispense punishment.
